‘Biological Response Modifiers (BRMs)’ – Nutrient Source for White Blood Cells |
It is a well-known fact that white blood cells have a major part to play in ‘immunity (self-healing power)’ – the power humans have to recover from diseases and maintain health. However, less is known about biological response modifiers (BRMs) or immunostimulants, which act as a nutrient source for white blood cells.
This is because to date there has been little research on nutrient sources for white blood cells throughout the body.
Recent research reveals that BRM is found in considerable quantities in the following foods:
|
<Vegetables low in beta carotene>
Vegetables low in beta carotene, such as daikon, cabbages, eggplants, cucumbers.
<Seaweed>
Seaweeds, such as aomafu-nori, akasugi-nori, hijiki, kombu.
<Fruit>
Fruit, such as bananas, watermelons, pineapples.
<Lactic acid bacteria>
Lactic acid bacteria (lactococcus) EF-2001.

These foods are not rich in vitamins and therefore have not been deemed as necessary to be consumed every day according to existing nutritional information.
However, these foods are rich in BRMs, the nutrient source for white blood cells. Lactic acid bacteria EF-2001 contains the most BRMs of any of these foods; consuming this is a safe and effective means of ingesting a ‘nutrient source for white blood cells’.
The 21st century is an age of eradicating lifestyle diseases. It is the age of eating habits that balance the immune system. It is important to have a well-balanced intake of the six major nutrients.In addition, frequent consumption of BRM foods on a daily basis will preserve the white blood cells that are active in balancing immunity and protect against lifestyle diseases.This is a major task for the 21st century. |
No Change in BRM Content of Lactic Acid Bacteria EF-2001 when Heated
|
The BRM content of vegetables, fruit, seaweed or lactic acid bacteria alters very little in regular food preparation (boiling, baking, frying, deep-frying), meaning it does not lose its effectiveness.
The same applies to our lactic acid bacteria EF-2001. Although it is live bacteria, its effectiveness is not affected even when heated.
Instead, its immunity-balancing capacity increases when heated, meaning it is an effective means of BRM intake.
While lactic acid bacteria are not usually stored at room temperature, due to being live bacteria, they are far safer and far better for preserving when the cells have been heated and dried.
This means that lactic acid bacteria EF-2001 can be used in all food products. Lactic acid bacteria can be added without affecting the original flavour of the food product. To distinguish them from live bacteria, we call the preservation-enhancement-treated lactic acid bacteria cells ‘BRM-Containing Lactic Acid Bacteria EF-2001 (Patent No. 3151442)’ for differentiation purposes.

Superior Production Technology and Safe ‘Activity’ Management for EF-2001 |

At Nihon Berumu Co., Ltd., we heat lactococcus Enterococcus faecalis EF-2001 to boost its ability to activate white blood cells even further. |
Heat stabilisation produces the following advantages previously not found in lactic acid bacteria products.
1. Able to consume a greater number of bacteria in a smaller dose as a result of collecting the cell walls (more than 7.5 trillion bacteria per gram)
2. Not living bacteria, therefore highly heat resistant
3. Cannot generate new lactic acid, therefore quality is stable
4. No acidity whatsoever, therefore does not affect taste

Substances that increase immunity are called biological response modifiers (BRMs). BRMs are used as medicinal products to boost the body’s natural immunity. In order to market the BRM capabilities of our EF-2001 as a reliable product, we use an immunity ‘activity evaluation test’ to test it against the anti-cancer pharmaceutical agent OK432.
This ‘activity evaluation test’ is carried out each product shipment lot, with strict quality standards in place. Only products that have a potency of at least 70% of that of the pharmaceutical product are marketed.
